I'm back from holidaying in Blightly and trying to catch up on submissions made during my time away. First up we have three issues of PSM3 (UK) scanned by Jason and kindly donated by gater.

Playing catch-up, I've got Electronic Entertainment #18, as well as Star Trek: The Official Monthly Magazine #3 and #5 for you.
The Star Trek mags are those awkward British sizes that don't fit on an A4 scanner, so I tag-teamed with Jason to get them done. He did the scanning, I did the editing, and now you do the reading.

Great mag, a shame Titan ruined it in the end. Anybody have recommendations on how to scan these?

Jason to scan his magazines.
Basically, you need an A3 scanner to scan them properly. Enuff said!!
The March 2000 issue of What PC? has been added to the site. Thanks go out to gater for the donation and Jason for the scanning ...

Yep, an A3 scanner is necessary. I don't have one, hence Jason to the rescue. And if your mags have aged the same as mine did, you're gonna need Photoshop and some elbow grease as well if you want to make them pretty like mine ;D :

Pretty much hard work ... too much for my liking, although I must admit I like seeing kitsunebi's wonderful results from all that effort. Very pretty indeed.

Quote from: slider1983 on Oct 07, 2024, 02:41 PMNo my mags aren't brown thankfully, just too big. ;D
I didn't think they were brown either until they were scanned. Scanners can end up really enhancing how noticeable yellowing/aging is. Holding a mag in your hands, it isn't usually obvious, unless you hold the pages up side by side with something pure white.
It doesn't help matters that Titan printed those things on the cheap. I've been hearing all sorts of stories from Jason about what a pain they are to scan due to their crap printing quality. I'm used to scanning mostly Japanese mags, which I don't think I'm incorrect in saying may be the highest print quality mags in the world overall, so it's probably just as well that I couldn't scan these ST mags myself.
But turning old rotten lemons into eternally fresh and delicious lemonade is what scanning is all about.
Jason brings us PC Plus #67 and 99. These things are 500+ page monsters .... :o

When I made a couple of attempts I didn't get any yellowing. They are a bit grey/desaturated though.
By the way I can't seem to download the recent files. I get the message "You are not allowed to download files". Is there a problem with the download links or website access for accounts?

Not sure what you're talking about? I haven't seen anyone else talking about downloads being down. I'm sure Kiwi would have made a post about it in the site news section if that had been the case. Maybe it's just you? ;)

It's about to end its 30 year run. It was rebranded Star Trek Explorer a few years ago, and the final edition will be out in December. I don't know the exact numbers but it would be an immense number over that 30 years.
Edit - answered better by Kitsunebi below without a quote fail :)

207 issues, at which point (in 2021) they rebranded as "Star Trek Explorer" which lasted 14 issues, the final issue of which will be published in December 2024.

Some issues like this one are hideously off square so straightening them as much as possible without cropping page content is required to make them somewhat presentable. Gaming mags don't hold a candle to the wonkiness of some of these issues :o

Wow, didn't know it existed for that long with so many issues published. Also wasn't aware that "ST Explorer" is shutting down, sad to hear. I guess the days of regular Star Trek Mags are then sadly over ...?

I think you are looking at
Game Informer (AUS), the Australian version of this title as indeed we have issues up to
113 for that title.
Jason may be able to shed more light on it but I think they stopped producing the local version in favour of shipping the USA version down under instead.
As far as the USA version is concerned we only have what is currently available in the download portal. We only upload scans by our scanning members, none of which currently reside in the USA. That is why UK and Australian/New Zealand magazines are predominantly featured here. We don't have anyone with access to USA mags to scan. Retromags (http://www.retromags.com/) have all issues of this title available via torrent as their USA scanning members have scanned them all.

Yep as Kiwi said, these are the Australian editions and did not have as long a run in Australia. Hyper had been the dominant multi format magazine since the early 1900s and competing with it would have been tough. It was launched locally in 2010 and lasted until 2019. Most of it was reprinted from the US edition with some local content, but it was very cheap so sold quite well.
I dont know what number the very last issue was, but one day the local cheap magazine was replaced by a US import at double the price. They made a ham fisted attempt to pretend it was still locally produced (I assume they did a lot of "find and replace") but left a lot of US references in there. This did not go down well with local buyers (including me which is why we have no more than what we have) and most stopped buying it, so I dont know the exact number beyond the issues we have, but it didnt last for long afterwards.
Retromags have Issues 1-260 of the US Edition available via a torrent, link here:

I once sat down and compared page by page a couple dozen issues of the Aus & US Game Informers, and they were 99% identical - very few changes at all. There were a couple of examples that added something new or removed something, but they seemed rarer.
