Thanks so much for this! My favourite ever games mag.
Back in hospital so no updates for a couple of days.
Kiwi
Best wishes, I hope you recover safely!
Take care mate. Wishing you a speedy recovery
Hope it's nothing serious and you are back on your feet soon mate. Take some time to rest!
Thanks everyone. Another bout of Atrial Fibrillation I am afraid. My ticker is not coping that well with strenous work sanding and painting the house by the look of it.

Mac Addict #39 scanned by BobKiwi and released over at IA as OCR formatted PDF has been added here after downloading his original jp2 files and converting them to jpg format. I also perspective corrected the cover page a small amount. I decided we needed some Mac content and on reddit he said they could be shared everywhere so thought why not?
You could say it's a small amount of payback for Jason Scott site ripping OGM a few years ago but I have no intention of doing this for any other titles, just that as a recent Mac convert it's nice to read up on Mac software.

Thank you guys for the uploads of this excellent magazine. Aside from the elusive Issue 02, is that the complete set of PSM2?
If you were a computer user in the nineties you will remember the little booklets with a "free" game attached, usually a shareware version, which sold for a few bucks so that a parent might see it and say "Here's something new and cheap for Johnny's PC". Well Jason has scanned a couple of the booklets of these sans the software itself. Hark back to the days with two issues of the austentaciously named Ultimate Arcade Game Collection ;D

Almost. I have just ordered two more issues (excluding #2) and once they are scanned in then that's the complete set. But as always if anyone finds issue 2 let me know or get it scanned!
I think we are currently missing issues 02, 28, 39 and 51 ....

What the hell is going on here? Why are there so many magazines being released? Wasn't Kiwi just in the hospital, like 5 minutes ago? Why can't this man take a break??!!! :o

After two days in hospital they discharged me still with Atrial Fibrillation but with drugs to try and control it. Due to my history with the last incident and the increased risk of a blood clot they weren't prepared to "paddle" me until the blood thinners have had enough time to remove any potential blood clots in my heart. Now I am on blood thinners for life and it's a waiting game.
I see the Cardiologist in a couple of weeks which might give me clarity on when they can paddle me again to get it back into a proper rhythm. Alternately, some people go back into normal rhythm when using the beta blockers I am on so maybe it'll come right by itself?
All I know is I feel tired all of the time at present. Hopefully I don't have a stroke in the meantime. As I said previously, it's now a waiting game.

I am on medical leave for a couple of weeks. Never ever heard of this publication. It's amazing how many unofficial gaming magazines were released that went under the radar. Thank you for the upload.
Once again, Jason and I join forces to bring you Star Trek: The Official Monthly Magazine #10 (https://www.oldgamemags.com/forum/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;id=12924). Big J on scans and little k on edits.

I honestly haven't yet gotten around to watching a single one of the modern Trek shows, but I hear that the new Section 31 movie is a total trash fire. Nothing but classic Trek in these mags, though, so no worries.
Staying with the space theme but grounded in reality rather than Sci-Fi we have the book Space Probes available in the Books area. And from the few minutes I watched of Star Trek: Section 31 it looked far less interesting than reading kitsunebi's mag or even this book for that matter!!

Oh my god that CGI Pierce Brosnan is so uncanny. This image stuck with me over the years. Much like the very feminine depiction they had of Squall Lionheart on the cover of another issue.

Star Trek The Official Monthly Magazine #11 (https://www.oldgamemags.com/forum/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;id=12987) is up (scans by Jason, edits by me.) I'm not interested in hearing any anecdotes of anyone else owning magazines that aren't this exact issue which are in better condition as that's completely irrelevant - the bottom line is, these things remain HELL to edit. I just started editing an American mag published around the same time in 1996, and it's like apples and oranges - the USA mag doesn't have the halo of brown around the edges that makes editing these ST mags such a bitch, so the editing flies by in comparison.

In all reality I believe they have been made available on other sites long before now but I thought "sharing is caring" so I'll make them available here too.

As such, the coverpage is always displayed on the very last page when I open these mags with my CBZ Reader (I am using YACReader). Is there an easy workaround for that except renaming the coverpage file in each .cbz?

Okay.
That was because I was renaming the front page after extracting the pages from the pdf file the magazines originally came in so that I could use it as the cover image on the website without all the "-page**" info. I didn't realize it was an issue because, well, my .cbz reader
CDisplayEx always showed the cover correctly so I had no idea it was a problem. This only occurs on 3rd party mags I convert which is almost nil because we don't generally use 3rd party mags and magazines which are converted from PDF.
No-one else here has ever mentioned it as being a problem either however I will refrain from renaming the cover pages from here on out. Problem solved ....

I already mailed all of the issues I bought to Jason so he could scan them on his A3 scanner. I can't remember offhand what I sent, but everything I sent will get done eventually. They take 5 times as long to edit as a normal mag, so I have to edit different things in-between or I'll lose my mind (unless the paper quality improves on later issues, I guess.)

Are you referring to this one (https://archive.org/details/Planet_Game_Boy_Issue_03_2000-03_Future_Publishing_GB)? Unless I'm misunderstanding how Archive.org works, compression on that scan is pretty bad. Assuming no one else has this issue in the pipeline, I'll scan a better quality copy.

Congratulations! You found a truly awful piece of %#$^ uploaded by Jason Scott himself! Your prize is in the mail!
Seriously, who knows where he scraped that super-low-res-and-compressed copy from, but before someone else destroyed it, it was sourced from the same copy at Retromags. You can see it where someone has uploaded it to Archive
here (https://archive.org/details/Planet_Game_Boy_Autumn_2000/mode/2up) (hey, Jason Scott ain't the only one who makes it their job to copy files), but you won't catch Kiwi uploading their stuff without permission. And anyway, it's still kind of a crap scan, since it wasn't debound. All kinds of curvature near the spine distorting everything.

I'm guessing, of course, but I'm fairly confident I know exactly what happened. The original scan of that issue is the one I linked to (https://archive.org/details/Planet_Game_Boy_Autumn_2000/mode/2up). It's 2200px high (Retromags' base standard size) and is listed simply as the August 2000 issue (though the cover actually says "Autumn 2000.")
Next, someone downloaded the issue from the Internet Archive, except this someone was an IDIOT, and downloaded the PDF instead of the CBR. This happens with alarming frequency, since people who fall into the idiot category tend to have never heard of CBRs, so they ALWAYS go for the PDF. The problem is of course, that the PDF is just an auto-generated file that is super low-res and compressed (in this case it is 1100px high and also crazy compressed).
So anyway, this idiot then uploaded the crap auto-generated PDF to some other site (they also mislabeled it as issue 3 because...
idiot.) Next, good ol' Sketch the Cow (Jason Scott) came along and scraped that site, including this issue, and uploaded it to the Internet Archive. So even though the file was already there in uncompressed form, Jason Scott uploaded a crappy half-resolution copy which itself originally began as an auto-creation of the Internet Archive, simply because he doesn't actually have time to bother looking at the stuff he's scraping and uploading.
I'm not being a smartass, by the way, this is the scenario I genuinely feel is the most likely to be true.

I was gonna say that just sounds like the classic Famitsu review style (the one EGM copied), except then I took a look and they also let one of the 4 reviewers write a normal, lengthier review to accompany the brief Famitsu-style reviews. So I guess it's the best of both worlds.

Here's my all-new scan of Nintendo Strategies (https://www.oldgamemags.com/forum/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;id=9211). I don't know what the previously available scan of it looked like, since I couldn't find it on the site (looked in the wrong place), but since I've provided you with that handy blue link above, you won't have to worry about having that problem.

Good stuff. I often look at scans first before deciding whether to buy mags, and P2 has been curiously absent everywhere! Thanks all.
Quote from: kitsunebi on Feb 24, 2025, 12:59 PMI already mailed all of the issues I bought to Jason so he could scan them on his A3 scanner. I can't remember offhand what I sent, but everything I sent will get done eventually. They take 5 times as long to edit as a normal mag, so I have to edit different things in-between or I'll lose my mind (unless the paper quality improves on later issues, I guess.
That's cool. I don't have a complete set of issues but most so I can send some to Jason if he needs them. :)
