Wow!! A really nice scan of Nintendo Power #001 to start the New Year. Awesome!! The fact that is our ONLY issue of that mag we have makes it all the more special!! :)
Yeah, that's pretty much the holy grail of American gaming mag nostalgia. It's the first mag most Americans seek out when they discover that the magazines of their youth can be downloaded online. Dunno what the UK/AUS/NZ equivalent would be. CVG #1? Someone enlighten me.
And this might be the first Nintendo Power here...but it won't be the last... ;)
Thank you for the uploads. Much appreciated.
Belated happy new year to everyone :)
Now that family guests from Oz have returned to their homeland, I have a little more time on my hands to update the site and even do a little scanning so Antic issues 17 and 46 are now available ...

Thank you kitsunebi-san, appreciate that the premier issue of this indeed special magazine gets such a high-quality scan! Many thanks for your efforts 8)
Great work as always kitsunebi!
No idea what the AUS equivalent for Nintendo Power #1 would be. Personally it would be Hyper #1 as that was my favourite mag growing up. Still can't believe the whole set is here to read through.

For the UK, it was quite fragmented. Loads of mags knocking around. From what I remember in my own heyday in no order.
1. CVG
2. N64 Magazine
3. Official PlayStation Magazine
4. Official PlayStation 2 Magazine
5. GamesMaster (Linked to TV show of same name up to 1998)
6. GamesTM
7. Play (PS2 Magazine)
I feel like EDGE #0 is an elusive copy. The only physical copy I've ever seen was a photo that the former EDGE art director uploaded to his own Twitter account. And that was just of the cover, I've never seen any of the internal pages.
It was all about the UK mags in Oz, Australian mags back then were absolute crap in comparison.. at least prior to the mid 90s.
Mags I used to buy regularly were CVG, Zzap! 64, CU Amiga, Amiga Format, Amiga Power & Amiga Action.
CVG was the GOAT ;D
Yeah I don't think there is really a definitive Nintendo Power Issue #1 equivalent in the UK because there was so many options (and a wealth of magazines that predate the home console eras) but I would think that Edge, CVG or even GamesMaster are probably the closest. They were certainly the most ubiquitous mags back in the day.
On a different note, my eight boxes of magazines, along with my scanner and computer have finally arrived in New Zealand after four months out at sea. Expect a lot of scans incoming towards the end of the month (and thanks again to those who have donated and waited patiently!).
Looked in this further and apparently Official PlayStation Magazine UK was the best selling gaming magazine globally in the late 90s. Those demo discs like MGS must have played a part.

Thats exciting, cant wait to see some of your new scans 😁 . Out of interest do you have any PSi2 in those boxes? Not asking for then to be scanned soon or anything just curious as I am setting up saved searches for PSi2 to scan the missing issues and wouldnt want to buy issues that you had planned to scan

Yeah Aussie mags in the 80s were a hodge podge of various overseas and local content licensed and slapped together, with the Gareth Powell magazines being an exception. There was an Aussie version of the UK's Personal Computer Games (of which my scanned issues are available here) which was games focussed but still had a lot of local non gaming content (computer reviews etc) - which seem to be pretty rare as I've never seen any more than what I have uploaded.
There was probably little need for it as there were so many UK mags here (albeit 3 months out of date as they were sea freighted here back then!)
I can't even think of any pure gaming magazines until the early 90s when Megazone and then of course Hyper and the Next Publishing mags came onto the scene.

Thanks, I wonder if they just refunded the money but didn't send out any letters saying it had ended. They also didn't seem to announce it on their website on the wayback machine. They created two magazines shortly after I wonder if the subscriptions changed to "Codejunkies" magazine or "PlayOn". Or maybe they just sent out PSi2 issues instead to subscribers.

I think Play On only had one issue released, anyone know of a second or further issues?
Based on the tiny images they had on their website it looks like there were at least two issues of PlayOn, I tried to attach the images to this post but it seems the upload directory is full for post images.
But issue one had a pokemon on the cover and the other issue (not sure if number 2) has Lara on the cover.

Something a little different today with ten issues of Aviation History magazine added to the download area. This title ceased production back in 2024 so why not ensure they are preserved outside of Readly in case they ever get pulled from that service?
