Title: Download Problems
Post by: mstockan on Aug 30, 2024, 06:14 AM
Hi, just wondering if there is a problem with the host as I haven't been able to download anything since mid afternoon?

I'm the newest button here, so not sure if my dramas are related. I'm doing well to pull more than 50kb/sec at the moment, normally manage ~2.5mb/sec. I've possibly overworked the pixies, but even so, that feels really slow.

Yes, it seems there's an issue, I just tried a Hyper and its hanging. Kiwi is travelling for a few weeks and I do not have access to the Seedhost to see whats going on, so it might have to wait until he can fix it.

As Jason said, I am away for another three weeks so I can't see what's going on with the seed box. It may be that volume downloading has exceeded the monthly bandwidth allowance or there maybe a problem with the server itself.

If it is a PDF file it may be the stupid auto display feature of the browser. Try right clicking on the link and select "save as" to  force the file to download normally like it does with cbz files.

I haven't received any emails from the seed box host about any issues so at this point I'm hoping it's a temporary glitch in space time and will resolve itself. Hopefully Russia isn't blowing up internet cables in that part of the world either.

Are downloads still a problem? I'm back home mid next week but with the lack of comments I'm unsure if there is still a problem or not.

I've not had any problems over the past week (before that, I have no idea, as I hadn't downloaded anything in ages).  And I just checked out a file that got reported less than an hour ago as "unable to be downloaded," but it downloaded fine.  So it seems to me that downloads are working, but there are some end user problems of some sort.

Only happens with PDF files. Not having any issues with CBR/CBZ files. Seems like an issue with the PDF auto display feature Kiwi mentioned. When I click download I just get a gray screen with no options. However, if I go to the parent directory "https://whale.seedhost.eu/oldgamemags/downloads/Magazines/PC-Gamer-USA/" and then click on the issue in question it will load the page and let me download.

I have no trouble downloading PDF files, but I've set my browser to allow me to choose to save them, rather than automatically opening them.  If your browser is trying to open the files, I suggest doing what Kiwi suggested and right clicking the download button and selecting "save as."  Should be no problem.

All new submissions are in CBZ format. As I get spare time (from where?  :P ) I am converting our PDF files over to CBZ as well, uploading them and replacing the link. This should eliminate the stupid PDF problems. Until then it sounds like changing the browser settings as kitsunebi kindly pointed out should solve those "hanging/not downloading" errors people might be having.
