Wizard: The Guide to Comics #1 is online.  Interesting how quickly this mag evolved, content and production-wise.  In less than a year it would look almost like a different mag.  Dunno how many of OGM's members are into comics (the way comics sell these days, it could literally be NONE of you, statistically-speaking), but comics, not games, are what I spend my free time on.  The ad on the back cover for Jim Lee's X-Men #1 fills me with the same feel-good nostalgia you all probably get when you see a mint-in-box Mega Drive or box full of Speccy games or what have you (I'm guessing based on OGM's suspected demographics, can you tell? LOL.)

I'm huge into comics and have rows of Marvel Epic Collections (and now DC Finest volumes) behind me right now. Will enjoy any Wizard issues that pop up.

A shame this wasn't communicated with me, nice birthday present. My version was fine so I'll keep that one.  ;)

Quote from: kitsunebi on May 30, 2025, 09:26 PMHooray for non-blurry non-distorted pages!  There's a lot you can do with Photoshop, but fixing page curvature/blurriness caused by bound mags being scanned on a flatbed is something that simply can't be fixed, only cropped away or left for all to see as proof of how the mag wasn't debound.
I'm pretty certain there was no blurriness so not sure what you're smoking. Thanks for rubbishing my work...  ::)

Superseding scans with those of higher quality is expected, welcomed, and should not be taken personally. I don't see why the original versions uploader would need to communicated beforehand, but I can confidently assume that no offence was intended.

Happy birthday!

Okay, getting a little tired of "my version is better than your version" talk so what I will say is, to quote from Disney's Aladdin movie, "You know the Golden Rule? He who has the Gold makes the rules!!"

In this case I own this website so what is hosted on the site is entirely of my own choosing.

I'd leave it at that but in this particular case slider1983 has said, and I quote, "I'm pretty certain there was no blurriness so not sure what you're smoking" so I would kindly direct anyone to view the differences between his flatbed scanned version and my one put through the ix1600 document scanner in the Gallery I added to the site. Take page 03 for example ....

I'm not pooh-poohing scans made on a flatbed. When nothing else exists they are better than nothing for sure BUT a flatbed scan will, all things being equal, never compete compared to a scan from a document scanner where the magazine has been taken apart to get the best possible scan. I know my scan is not the best it could be either as it was slightly over A4 in size but I am happy with it and ultimately that's what counts.

Images of War #31 is now available. Still suffering from this damned flu going around at present ...

3D World issues 85-100 have been added to the site.

It isn't necessarily true that a flatbed scan will be worse than a scan from a document scanner.  A nice/expensive flatbed might even get better results than a document scanner...if the pages have been debound.  What's actually making the difference in this case is that the mag scanned on the flatbed wasn't debound.  So there is shadowing and blurriness along the spine edge of the pages.  This can sometimes happen on a flatbed EVEN IF the mag has been debound, if the pages are already curled (such as happens with thick stapled mags), since the lid of the flatbed isn't going to flatten the pages quite as much as when they are squeezed/squeegied between the glass plates on a document scanner.  But there's no reason a debound copy of a square-bound mag couldn't be scanned on a flatbed and get good results (assuming the scanner itself was good quality.)

So I would change Kiwi's quote to this to make it always true: a bound scan will, all things being equal, never compete compared to a debound scan.

Never heard of this Images of War magazine, but given the amount of issues scanned I assume it's worth checking out. Seems pretty interesting.

Hope you get over the flu and feel better soon!

I have the complete set of 52 or 54 issues along with several specials. Nowhere else has them available so it's a nice, if somewhat niche, magazine for the site.

Feeling better by the day. Been very tired of late because of it I must say

I swear to God the flu is worse than Covid nowadays!!  JabbaTheGamer donated and Gregorick scanned Xbox World issues 11, 12 and 17 ...
